The National Carillon is on Aspen Island (35°17′54.69″S, 149°08′30.14″E) (Google Maps) in the Central Basin of Lake Burley Griffin. It had 53 bells, but during a refurbishment in 2004 this was extended to 55. The National Carillon opened in 1970 and was given by the British government to Australia to mark the 50th Anniversary of Canberra.
In the spring, summer, and autumn, you can hear recitals every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and all public holidays from 12:30 p.m. to 1:20 p.m. Everything from classic to rock & roll is played on this carillon.
